4/11/2024 0 Comments Flightgear scenery linux minti spent several hours rooting around on the sites pointed to by the logs trying to figure out the basic question of "what determines wikimedia affiliated sites" and how we were being allowed to use the tiles in the past. expecially if it hasn't been set to a proper UA to begin with. it may also be that our UA is wrong or being blocked. It takes longer than that to try to figure out what the proper URL should be if the old one is no longer allowed. I'd better stick my cashed tiles somewhere on a network drive in case I need them again. That's very bad news to know that osm tiles are no longer available. Only noticed it now, when had to reinstall because of the problems caused by the update, which deleted the cash folder. To be honest I haven't paid much attention to that before, mostly flying in the same locations, so those map tiles have been cashed for quite some time. i don't know what happened with that effort but it seems to be stalled as i've not seen any word about it since two or three weeks. i think you would run it locally and it would generate the tiles from FG scenery. Now, some weeks ago, someone started an attempt to bring back another map-related tool that we could point FG towards for these map tiles. but it doesn't write which URL so testing further is hampered because someone must dig into the code. when i use the in-sim canvas map, which is rare as i prefer the other one, my log/console spews http warnings or errors about not being allowed to use that URL. apparently the URLs used are no longer available to FG for some reason.
